How to write it, step by step

  1. Write capital H and carry its ending stroke straight into the a.
  2. Join the rest of the letters without lifting your pencil: a, p, p, y, b, i, r, t, h, d, a and y.
  3. Watch the high join (bi): after b, o, v or w, the next letter starts at the midline, not the baseline.
  4. Let the p and y drop below the baseline and loop back up through it.
  5. When the words are finished, go back to dot the i and cross the t.
  6. Leave a gap about the width of a small o between words.

Tips for each letter

H
Leaving the crossbar out. The loop across the middle connects both sides.
a
Leaving the top open, so a looks like u. Close the circle before you slant down.
p
Making a loop on the tail. Cursive p goes down and back up the same line, with no loop below.
y
Leaving the loop open below the line. Bring the tail back up so it crosses at the baseline.
b
Dropping the ending to the baseline. b ends high, at the midline, so the next letter starts from there.
i
Stopping to dot the i in the middle of a word. Finish the word first, then dot.
r
Rounding the top so r looks like an i or an n. The small flat step at the top is what makes the r.
t
Making t as tall as l, or adding a loop. Cursive t is shorter than the tall letters and has no loop.
h
Making the hump too narrow, so h looks like an l and an i. Give the hump some width.
d
Making a loop on the tall stick. Cursive d goes up and back down on the same line, with no loop.
